Take your Mandarin skills to the next level! In Intermediate Mandarin, students ages 11-14 will refine their language skills through engaging conversations, reading short texts, and writing practice. This class is designed for learners who already have a foundation in Mandarin and want to build fluency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Learners will explore topics such as hobbies, food, travel, and cultural traditions, with a focus on using Mandarin in real-world conversations. This twice-a-week class provides immersive, interactive lessons that help learners gain confidence in their language abilities. Through role-playing, discussions, and storytelling, students will develop stronger comprehension and communication skills while deepening their understanding of Chinese culture. ★★Need a different time slot? Nǐ xǐhuān shénme? – What do you like?). Learners will improve fluency by asking and answering questions in realistic scenarios. - Reading Comprehension: Read short texts, dialogues, and stories to improve written Mandarin understanding. Texts will include cultural stories, fables, and real-world topics to build comprehension and cultural awareness. - Writing Practice: Learn to write sentences and short paragraphs, focusing on sentence structure, grammar, and character formation. Practice will include writing about personal experiences, like favorite activities or trips. - Vocabulary Expansion: Build practical vocabulary for conversations, including words related to hobbies, food, travel, and cultural elements (e.g., 饭馆 fànguǎn – Restaurant, 飞机 fēijī – Airplane). - Grammar and Sentence Structures: Master complex sentence structures using conjunctions, prepositions, and descriptive phrases to add depth to conversations and writing. - Listening Skills: Strengthen listening comprehension through teacher-led storytelling, role-play activities, and audio clips. Learners will practice understanding key information from spoken dialogues. - Chinese Idioms and Proverbs: Explore commonly used Chinese idioms (成语 chéngyǔ) and proverbs to enhance cultural understanding and communication skills. - Cultural Insights: Learn about Chinese traditions, festivals, customs, and etiquette, including greetings during holidays, the significance of zodiac animals, and traditional foods. Learners will practice forming questions and answers to reinforce comprehension and fluency. - Interactive Activity (15-20 minutes): Participate in role-playing exercises, read short texts, or engage in listening comprehension activities to strengthen understanding of real-world scenarios. - Writing Practice (5-10 minutes): Practice writing characters, forming sentences, or creating short paragraphs based on the session’s vocabulary and theme. - Cultural Insights (5-10 minutes): Explore Chinese idioms, proverbs, and traditions. Discuss how these cultural elements connect to the language and everyday life in China. - Wrap-Up & Review (5 minutes): Recap key vocabulary, phrases, and cultural elements learned during the session. Pre-Requisites
This class is best suited for learners who already have a basic foundation in Mandarin. If your child has completed beginner Mandarin classes or can introduce themselves, ask basic questions, and recognize simple characters, they are ready!
