This 8-week course lets students expand conversations, description, narration about topics of themselves and the outside world. It furthers their learning of the Chinese characters in order to build reading as well as writing skills.
Class experience
This class meets once a week and is an immersion-style class, meaning we will use as much Chinese as possible. Students will continue to build confidence and competence to speak and enjoy creating expressions in a new language. Students will be able to name different types of music/movie/TV shows and different animals. Students will be able to describe their interests and hobbies with details, in sequences of sentences or short paragraphs. The description can be about not only themselves but also people close to them, their daily life, key space of their daily activities. Students will be able to name major transportation methods. Students will be able to ask for directions and give directions. Students will be able to comprehend conversations and short paragraphs related to the topics learned throughout this course. Students will be able to write short sentences in Chinese characters.
I have been a K-12 language teacher in K-12 schools for over 10 years before I took the full-time administrator position as the school director. I have taught beginner-level class through advanced language classes including AP Chinese. Teaching and seeing students become confident Chinese speakers is one of my favorite experiences as an educator.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
