In this 5-week course, students will develop their chess skills through tactical and strategic lessons and exercises.
Class experience
Each class will consist of 2 parts. I will do an instructional lesson for the first half to present the ideas and topics for the lesson. This will be followed by students playing live games with instructor supervision and coaching to practice what they have learned in a game situation. The class will focus on a variety of themes including, but not limited to, opening principles, pins, skewers, forks, discoveries, sacrifices, and much more. This course is designed for students who already know the rules of chess, and now need help in developing plans and specific goals during gameplay. By the end of the course, students should have a clearer focus and understanding of their objectives in the game within the game, and how to properly execute those ideas.
I have been teaching chess, both in classroom settings and private lessons for the last 12 years. Working with K-12 students with classes of up to 50 students, I have the experience and knowledge to teach students to not only learn chess, but to enjoy the process of learning as well. I'm rated around 1900 USCF.
Homework Offered
