Class Experience

Over the course of this dance class, students will be challenged in their Ballet technique in a fun, interactive, and educational environment through online learning. Together we will cover further advancement and knowledge of in classical movement and methodology, and French terminology.

At the beginning of each class we will start with intermediate barre work, including plie, tendu, jete, rond de jambe, frappe, fondu, and grand battement. Once the student has accomplished these steps, we will move on to center work. In the center, the student will further learn how to find correct balance and placement while performing a classic adagio, turning sequence, petit allegro (small jumps), and movement that travels across the floor. Additional steps to learn will include: pique, temp lie, echape, glissade, pas de chat, temp leve and more. To end class we will take some time to properly cool down and discuss what we learned from the topic of the day.

This class is intended as a fun challenge for the intermediate level and learners will follow along with the instructor at a moderate pace. Some previous experience is necessary, a suggested 1-2 years of ballet. Any questions or comments will be answered during class time.

Learning Goals

In this class, intermediate level dancers will grow in the following areas: memory, technique, and terminology. They will learn the importance of musicality and dynamic within their movement, to further develop their skill and artistry.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello!

My name is Ms. Emily and I live in the Chicago area dancing, performing, and teaching ballet professionally. I began teaching a variety of dance classes for youth ages 3-22 over twelve years ago. From Pre-Ballet to Pre-Professional, I’ve taught it all, enjoying every step of the way. Im so grateful to Outschool for giving me the opportunity to connect with students globally and make a difference in every virtual meeting!

My teaching style is threefold: encouraging, imaginative, and productive. I love opening the floor for questions and to further help students understand the intention, mechanics, and history behind each step. Knowing the how’s and why’s is the key to becoming your own artist and building confidence and trust in your body. Dance is my passion and it is my hope and priority to provide a fun, mindful, and interactive learning experience for all learners and students of any age and level!

After graduating I was accepted by audition to a Chicago ballet company, where I have performed and toured the nation professionally since 2016 as a Solo Artist. During this time I have also directed a pre-professional program geared towards advancing the serious student, teaching a variety of classes nation-wide, choreographing, and coordinating performance opportunities in both community spaces and professional stages.

In addition to this I am professionally certified in Progressing Ballet Technique and have an extensive background in the study of beginning thru advanced ballet, pre-pointe, and pointe work, as well as experience in teaching modern, jazz, improv, and choreography. You name it, I teach it! I am dedicated to furthering my own knowledge daily to best help your student succeed.

Above all my desire is to offer high quality training in an accessible and modern-age environment. I also believe one-to-one mentoring in the arts is important and should be affordable and available to everyone. I’m dedicated to helping bring small and low-income communities professional training to the comfort and convenience of your own home. In addition to this, online classes can be a perfect supplement to your weekly training - Enjoy the benefits of multiple teachers and perspectives! My classes are short and sweet, designed to be supplemental to the training your student already receives. For a full list of classes offered, please reach out to me directly to get started. *I am happy to provide more information regarding financial aid, private class opportunities, and how to best supplement your in-person training with online classes.*

In my free time I like to explore the city of Chicago, travel the world, and spend time baking, cooking, and trying new recipes.
