Class Experience

Intermediate Level
Hello and Welcome to American Sign Language Intermediate, Part 2 of 3. This class is designed for children ages 6-11 who want to learn American Sign Language (ASL)!

It is highly recommended that the learner has completed Beginner ASL Parts 1, 2, and 3 and Intermediate Part 1 with me (or as needed, please message me and set up a time to do a one-time private 1:1 to evaluate where your learner may fit).

The learner will focus on a different primary function in each class and build on the weekly topics, vocabulary, and grammar introduction. In addition, we will learn words and simple sentences, between 20 and 50 signs each week.

I teach ASL using visualizations, games, stories, and music. For example, I'll introduce the word and show how to sign it, then have the student sign the proclamation. We will then put words into a song and play a game to help the children to remember how multiple signs fit together. We will use breakout rooms each week to practice signing with each other!

Week 1 - Introduction
Week 2 - Colors and Time
Week 3 - (finish) Time and Food
Week 4 - (finish) Food
Week 5 - Clothes and Things
Week 6 - (finish) Things and Animals
Week 7 - Animals
Week 8 - Review

Class Format:
> Greeting - Play a game to work on Fingerspelling
> We will review Language functions and grammar from the Week before.
> Break - this is the time to use the bathroom!
> Learn new words - Each Week will bring an item or talk about the new terms we are doing.
> Review this Week's words.

I will send out my teaching slides, as it is hard for learners to see both myself and the slides.

I'm excited to see you in class!

I have been teaching American Sign Language for over 15 years. I worked in the Deaf community for ten years. I teach a music and movement program in my local area and teach American Sign at different Preschools in my local area. We use signs to the community as my daughter is Hard of Hearing. My teaching style is to make learning fun to retain interest in learning.
