NOTE: Learners will be expected to be set up with their canvas, acrylic paints, palette, water, and paint brushes before class starts. I will not be able to wait to allow students to set up during class time. In this class, students will be guided in how to create the described painting with acrylic paints. Each class will be taken up with a step-by-step tutorial that will allow students to practice these techniques actively and add their own personal flair when and where they see fit....
Students will have a chance to become familiar with acrylics and learn techniques such as blending, mixing, layering, taping sections, using different brushes to create different effects. They will learn to create depth, shadow, light, value, contrast, and color harmony in their paintings. Additionally, they will learn specific techniques such as how to create pine trees, clouds, the illusion of water reflecting on a surface, light reflecting in the water, etc.
Painting will be done in class, but everyone paints at a different pace. Instruction time will never go over the two hours, but if students wish to continue painting even after class is over, they may do so. No homework will be assigned.
9x12 or 8x10 canvas (Either board or wrapped. I will be using board, but wrapped will be more than welcome) Full set of brushes (I can provide a link to the exact brushes I'm using upon request, but my instructions will be in the form of "a very small round brush" or "a large, flat-tipped brush" etc. The only requirement is that there is a wide variety of brushes.) Set of acrylic paints (Again, I can provide a link upon request, but as long as students at least have white, black, blue, brown, purple, green, red, orange, and yellow, they should be able to follow along by mixing colors as needed.) Cup for water Painting towel Paper towels Optional - easel (This might make it easier for me to track progress if learners have it facing their webcam)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Assessments will be informal, but written reports will be available upon parent request.
2 hours per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
