If you love insects, this is the class for you! Learners will begin class with a quick ice breaker to help them get to know each other! They can bring an ant toy to class so that they can share what they know about ants with others. We will read a book about ants called, "Ants" by Melissa Stewart. Learners will be encouraged to share their knowledge, ask questions, and make connections about the text. They will learn about the ant life cycle and fun facts. After the story, learners will draw an ant. They can choose to follow along to a directed drawing or use their creativity to draw freely. Finally, we will write a short story or fun facts about our ant. If time allows, we will read our writing to each other to share our ideas!
Learning Goals
Learners will be able to practice their speaking skills by sharing their knowledge of ants and why they like ants.
Learners will improve their reading comprehension and vocabulary by listening to an interesting text.
Learners will be able to use their creativity and fine motor skills to draw an ant.
Learners will practice their writing skills by writing in complete sentences.
Learners will use their imaginations to think of a story about an ant or their background knowledge to write fun facts about ants.

Parental Guidance
No parental guidance is needed.
Supply List
Learners will need paper and art supplies, such as pencils, colored pencils, crayons, or markers. Learners may chose to bring an ant picture or toy to class to share at the beginning. Learners may print out a writing plan to assist in their writing.

Hello! I am Kristen Galloway. I am a curious life long learner, and I want to share my love of learning with others! I am passionate about making learning fun, engaging, and relevant. I want to meet each child where they are developmentally and be a part of their journey of discovery. With a background in general education, I love to teach lessons that incorporate reading, writing, math, science, social studies. Learners should feel comfortable and welcome in the classroom. I think it is important to make learning a personal experience for each learner. I encourage each student to share their thinking. I work create a space where learners feel comfortable to learn. In order for every child to flourish they need to be seen, heard, and loved.
I believe in building relationships with my students and making learning engaging and connected to their lives. I use a multi-sensory approach to learning. I incorporate multiple domains throughout my lessons. I love to have fun in the classroom through conversations, games, and hands-on learning.
I have a Bachelor's of Science and a Master of Arts in Education. I have my TEFL and TESOL certifications. For the past 14 years, I have taught every grade from PreK-4th grade, sponsored a 3rd-5th grade STREAM club and a K-5 book club. I have also taught English online since 2019.
I have a 21 year old daughter, a 7 year old son, 2 dogs, 2 cats, and an axolotl. In my spare time, I love to read, play card and board games, hike, and watch movies. We love to travel and explore, and enjoy the journey as much as the destination!Reviews
