Description
Class Experience
During this exciting Sign Language class, students will take an imaginary trip to the farm. Students will learn how to move their hands and use their expressive skills to communicate what they see through the wonderful world of sign language, while on their farm visit. During our trip, we will see farm animals! As their teacher, I will guide students in learning each sign for our vocabulary words by modeling the signs. Students will then independently sign the vocabulary words. This class...
Students will improve communication skills, confidence, and positively work the brain as they learn sign language.
I began learning sign language as a child. As an adult, I received a college degree in Sign Language, as well as receiving a sign language certificate. I have professionally used my sign language skills as an Interpreter for the Deaf for about 10 years. In addition to this, I've taught sign language to students from PreK to adults for years. I loved my experience with teaching "College for Kids" classes - in which I taught classes to students (ages 7-13) during summers at a local university. My bachelor's and master's degrees center around education. My teaching certificates have allowed me to teach children from ages PreK through 18 for over 21 years. My teaching certificates include - 1) General Education and 2) Special Education. As a teacher, I have incorporated "sign language" as a technique to boost students' communication skills, broaden their understanding of vocabulary, heighten their ability to learn subjects, and support their memory of important learning techniques and rules - in both face-to-face classes and online classes.
Students homework is simply to use their new vocabulary in order to retain the signs that they learn. Showing their skills to others is so much fun for everyone involved.
Students are not required to bring material to class. They can bring listening ears, willing hands, and their joy for learning.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
30 minutes per week in class, and no time outside of class.
