In this one time course, students will come to understand what culture is and have the opportunity to explore aspects of their own.
Class experience
We will be exploring the concept of culture and different aspects of it. We will look at cultural traits among countries of the world and become aware of smaller and larger cultural differences. The class will be taught alongside an interactive powerpoint presentation that includes songs, graphics, gifs, a game, etc...The class will be lecture based with many discussion points embedded in the lesson so the students have time to share. Students will learn what culture is, where it is found and the seen and unseen parts of it. They will come to an understanding of their own, unique culture and that every place and everybody has a culture.
I hold a bachelor's degree in Intercultural Studies from the University of Northwestern-St. Paul and have extensive experience traveling cross-culturally.
-Please have your child bring a show and tell item to class that represents themselves and/or their culture. They will share with the class at the end. Their item can represent where they live, their cultural heritage, the country they live in, family…etc. -Writing utensil and small piece of paper -In order to make the powerpoint slide for homefun, the student will need access to powerpoint software or Google slides.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
