US Grade 2 - 6
In a one-on-one learning environment, I will teach students any math concepts or skills they need to learn. During our sessions, I can review current classroom topics, provide assistance with homework, or work with students on specified concepts for their grade level. If a specified need is not identified I will prepare an assessment task to identify gaps to find out what concepts your child needs help with. I can help your learner progress in math by building on existing knowledge in number sense, fractions and decimals, negative numbers, expressions & equations, ratios, problem-solving and pre-algebra concepts. I aim to make learning math a fun and interactive experience to build your child’s confidence and love for math. I possess a Master’s degree in Education and hold a current and valid professional teaching certification issued by the state of Maryland in Special Education for grades 6 - adult. I have been a Special Education Teacher for 12 years at the secondary level supporting students by modifying and adapting math and science instruction to meet their individual needs. I also provide small group and individualized Math and STEM instruction for students in grades k-6. Integrating STEM across content areas has been my focus to allow students to master concepts in a fun and engaging way. This class is an ongoing class for students who want ongoing math support for as many weeks as needed but can be scheduled for a one-time meeting for help with a specific task or an upcoming test. **24-hour notice is needed to prepare materials for new students** If you don’t see a day and time that works for your family please email me a request and I can provide flexibility in my schedule. Best Regards, Dana

Teacher expertise and credentials
Maryland Teaching Certificate in Special Education
Hello! My name is Dana Burton. As a lover of Math and Science, I enjoy teaching STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) concepts specifically at the preschool through the 2nd-grade level. Examples of these concepts include exploring the Life Cycles of Frogs and Plants through Science experiments and exploring number sense Math through building and engineering structures.
I received my Master of Science in Education Degree with a concentration in Adolescent Education and Teaching Students with Disabilities in 2014 from St. John’s University. This gave me a great understanding of curriculum adaptation and modification planning for students with varied skill sets. I have been a Special Education Teacher for 11 years supporting students with understanding Math & Science concepts by differentiating instruction and providing alternate lesson plans.
My philosophy for teaching is to create a safe and nurturing learning environment for students to discover and explore the world around them one concept at a time.
Although I am an Introvert, I’ve always wanted to be an Actress and Screenwriter. To date, I have appeared in 1 film as an extra and produced one short film.
