In this multi day, 4 week course, students will engage in a small group class and review math concepts in order to be ready for 3rd grade! The first day will consist of getting to know each other with an ice breaker, All About Me math worksheet (which will involve numbers), and a review of math terminology, and a quick informal assessment of how the students feel about math, and what they enjoy about math. The rest of the classes will be geared towards reviewing math standards. I feel it is important to teach a variety of learning styles, as students learn differently. Therefore, I will include visual aids, audio components, and manipulatives in every class. I encourage students to have their own manipulatives to coincide with the lessons. I encourage brain breaks, and even getting out of our chairs to get the blood flowing and exercises to cross the midline. This gives all students the opportunity to take a quick mental break, and come back refreshed and ready to learn!
