The Lindamood Bell "Seeing Stars" method is an intensive strategy for students who are struggling with their reading skills in the areas of decoding and spelling. Does your student struggle with: * Identifying syllables within words * Dividing words into syllables for reading & spelling * Decoding 3 and 4 syllable words * Spelling 3 and 4 syllable words * Understanding prefixes and suffixes when reading & spelling * Understanding “rules” for multi-syllable words such as “double letters” *...
My "Level 5" class will focus on taking apart and putting together 3 and 4 syllable words that include prefixes and suffixes. My “Level 4” class is a recommended prerequisite before taking “Level 5”. We will review the rules for reading and spelling words with common suffixes embedded in 3 and 4 syllable words. -tion (as in “national”) -ture (as in “textureless”) - sive (as in “aggressive”) - tive (as in “productive”) - ful (as in “carefully”) -ly (as in “naturally”) **and many more** We will learn the rules for reading and spelling words with common prefixes: -pre (as in “precaution”) -re (as in “reconstruction”) -pro (as in “proactive”) -dis (as in “discover”) **and many more** We will learn that some prefixes come from Latin and they carry special meaning. Such as: Ex – out of Pre - before Multi- many Pro – for, forward Post – after Sub – under **and many more**
As a special education teacher for 20 years, I have been using the Lindamood Bell techniques for decoding, comprehension, and math. This class will use the "Seeing Stars" method which focuses on visual memory skills for decoding and spelling. The Lindamood Bell method combines auditory, visual, and language skills for a comprehensive approach for the struggling learner.
Each lesson will include a worksheet which will be uploaded for you to print. Follow up activities for you to do with your throughout the week will help your child practice the skills he/she learns in class. These activities will take less than 10 minutes each day.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Progress is assessed through teacher observation during class.
