What's included

6 live meetings
5 hrs 30 mins in-class hours
Homework
1 hour per week. For each class, I have specific assignments that I would like them to do that build on the skills covered in the week's session. See the class description for the list of assignments. There are also optional projects to work on, from the package they received for each class. At the beginning of the next class, they will have the option of sharing their work so we can appreciate each others' creativity.
Assessment
As we can continue through the class, I will talk personally with each student and see how they feel about what they are doing and I will make suggestions going forward regarding ways they can approve. Both the student and I should be able to see how their vision and skills develop during the course of the class. The most important thing is that they are happy with their own progress as a developing artist!

Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 9
Intermediate Level
This will be a twice weekly class, a total of six classes over a 3 week period, for those older kids who want to dramatically improve their drawing skills during the winter. I have many prepared projects to work on, and we will do projects together in class. We will draw together, and I will demonstrate at every step of the way. The object is to hone their skills to reach a higher level, where they are able to observe, compose and invent pictures that are creative and expressive. Individual classes will focus on drawing people, details, movement, inventing places, and landscape drawing skills. Emphasis will be on personal creativity, expression, and picture content. Classes will be live, and I will have a package of projects and guides for each lesson. Tools will be various pencils, graphite, markers, pen and ink and brush ink washes. Our goal will be to draw at a level that is artistic, expressive and personally fulfilling.
Learning Goals
Over the course of the 6 sessions, 2 sessions a week over 3 weeks, students should be able to significantly improve their drawing skills, ability to focus and observe, ability to tap into their inner creativity and express themselves artistically. I will provide constructive feedback, and look for ways to best express themselves in art. The projects we will work on include subject matter that will interest them and encourage them to expand their overall interest in art. As the course continues, student art work should look more focused, have a better sense of proportion, 3-dimsionality, tones, colors and composition. The expectation for this class is that the student will acquire a more refined approach to drawing, better understanding of line, tone, light, space, composition and picture meaning. The class should instill in them a desire to go forward and make more and better pictures using their improved knowledge and skillset.

I am an experienced and exhibited professional artist, who specializes in sketching, printmaking, and computer graphics. I have taught college kids and adults for years, and I now teach several kid enrichment classes at a local school district, and summer classes for kids 5-8 and 9-13. This age group responds well to lessons that challenge their creativity and the growth of art skills and creative expression.
