Class Experience

Welcome to class!
In this intensive 4 week writing course, I will teach and we will explore six different genres of writing. Our genres will be descriptive, expository, persuasive, narrative, technical and poetic.
The topics I will cover will include how to plan and organize each writing genre, we will define and see examples of the genres, and then we will spend about 50% of the class time, working on the assignment. Students will be expected to hand in a final draft by the next meeting time. Only serious students will be encouraged to join the class as much of the class will focus on silent writing. Most students will be able to complete their writing during class and will only need to type up a final draft. They will also need to either do pre-planning or reverse planning to help them structure their writing.

During this flex class, we will use videos, flip-grid, nearpod, and kahoot to encourage teacher/student interaction. Students will be asked to record themselves reading/performing a piece for homework. Youtube videos and links will be used to enhance the lessons, ppts will be used as visual information.
Students will also be using weekly discussion questions for classroom interacation.
The teacher will upload a video where she teaches on the subject matter. The video is visible to only registered students.
I recommend that students take a writing course before entering this class as it will be heavily focused on self-motivation and silent writing.
My teaching style focuses on question and answer. I love to see students engaged and watching them discover their own potential as they explore the vastness of what the power of writing can bring them.
Learners will have plenty of freedom to interact with me either through the chat that is on zoom, in the classroom when homework is posted, and through discussions during lectures. They will also watch short clips, read slides, play games (as ice breakers) and be put into breakout rooms to discuss their work.
