This class will provide students with a foundation for playing the ukulele: tuning, playing chords, and using those chords to perform some simple popular songs.

Class Experience
This beginner ukulele class will include an introduction to the instrument along with basic music theory and tonal/rhythmic patterns: 1. About the ukulele and tuning the ukulele - students will be required to have their own ukulele and electronic tuner to participate 2. The C chord and basic strumming patterns - the first chord that we will use in almost all of our repertoire for the course 3. Adding the G chord and G7 chord - we will also work on reviewing the C chord and transitioning from...
Students will learn how to play several songs on the ukulele with anywhere between 4 and 8 different chords learned throughout the course.
Practice! Students will be expected to review what we have covered in the course so that they are prepared to learn new chords at the next class.

In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Informal performance assessments occur in each class - we will play individually, in small groups, and as a large group.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
The YouTube videos we will be watching are other ukulele players covering songs or playing chords. Parents are encouraged to assist in skipping ads if students watch materials on their own outside of class, and ensuring that students do not skip to other irrelevant videos.
