Inspired by Reading: Makers and Readers Unite! Art and Book Social Club

Reading conjures up so many descriptive images! This class will foster creativity by providing prompts and guidance as they create (draw, paint, build, journal, etc.) something that has been inspired by what they "see" as they are reading.

Description

Class Experience

This class is taught in English.
With a focus on creativity, students will be reading books with an eye for descriptive words. They will then use the prompts to create unique and personal works to express what they have taken inspiration from while reading.
I am a certified Pre-K-12 Art teacher with a love for making, creating, and reading. I belong to a book club exactly as I'm describing here.
Reading any book that the learner is interested in. You can come to class with a book in progress or one that you have already completed.
Come to the class using art materials of your choice! Several materials lists are provided below for different art media to help guide you as you decide what you want to create for each prompt but nothing will be expensive or out of reach, and we can always get CREATIVE with what to use! I suggest using a sketchbook or journal to take notes and develop ideas. Drawing: Drawing Paper or Sketchbook Pencil - that can be sharpened (mechanical pencils are okay for outlines but difficult to shade with) - a variety of drawing pencils are helpful but not necessary Eraser Optional Blending Tools - blending stump, Q-tip, tissue, etc. Dry Materials for Adding Color and Detail: Colored Pencils Crayons Charcoal Soft Chalk Pastels Oil Pastels Markers Ink Pens Acrylic Painting: Painting Surface (this can vary with what supplies you have at home): Stretched canvas, canvas board, cardboard, thick paper, recycled materials like the inside of a cereal box, etc. Recommended sizes are 8" X 10", 9" X 12", or 11" X 14" Pencil Eraser Acrylic or Tempera Paint Brushes - a variety of sizes (If you don’t have fine detail brushes, toothpicks can be helpful) Water Cup Paper Towel Palette - this can be a paper plate, a sheet of wax paper, or an old magazine For easy cleanup, a placemat and apron or paint shirt are encouraged Watercolor Painting: Watercolor or Mixed Media Paper - to prevent frustration this thick paper is best, thinner paper soaks up the water and wears holes into it quickly Pencil Eraser Watercolor Paint Soft Paint Brushes - a variety of sizes Water Cup Paper Towel Optional: Crayons, Oil Pastels, or Watercolor Pencils
Guidance will be provided every step of the way.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
