Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
Welcome to Arthrodpods Unit Study 1! This is a unit study course and covers various topics in arthropods. This is perfect for students who are being introduced to the topic, need a refresher course, or students who are studying arthropods in school or a homeschool curriculum. This course offers short PowerPoint presentations about the topic each week and follows with a hands-on activity. There is minimal work to be done outside of the classroom. For example, the first week we will be designing a bug vacuum and students are encouraged to try it out and find some bugs after class.
All of my classes are taught with an interactive approach. I believe that if students, and adults, are able to experience the concept by working with it hands-on they are able to understand it and apply it. In my classes, you will find students working on an activity or experiment, making predictions, and re-designing their experiment to test it out again. My goal is to make learning fun for all ages!

Topics:
Week one- Introduction and bug vacuums
Week two-They are invertebrates
Week three- Lifecycles
Week four- Exoskeletons
Week five- Lightning bugs and bioluminescence
Week six- Lots of eyes
Week seven-Arachnids (not to be confused with insects): spiderwebs
Week eight- Building an insect house
