In this science based literature class we will learn about Tesla, Curie, Hawking, Einstein, and more, and about subjects such as gravity, electricity, radiation, and black holes! This class is a great addition to homeschool curriculum.

Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6

During this 12 week class, we will be learning about some amazing scientists and inventors and before our adventure starts... each learner will have their own science journal for class! 

For this class, we will using the book series "Who Was". This series of books brings a lot of powerful information on people, places, and events to children in a straightforward way. These books appeal to both boys and girls and are designed for seasoned readers and reluctant readers alike!

Learners will understand how ancients, like Aristotle, viewed science
Learners will see how the Scientific Method changed the field of science
Learners will be able to see how scientific discoveries often start a domino effect to others
Learners will not only learn about scientific ideas, they will learn about the lives of scientists
Learners will be able to see how the inventions of the past, shaped the future

I have been a teacher on Outschool since 2020 and I teach on 2 additional online platforms. I have a biology background, however, I studied US and World History for 3 years in college, as well as 2 years of Chinese. I have also trained in a non-credited format, for many years, with an author and speaker who specializes in teaching children character qualities. 

I have always enjoyed teaching. My first teaching position was in Moscow, Russia, teaching English as a second language. Since then, I’ve taught in various settings which include a cooperative, a preschool, and as a tutor in the areas of math, science, and English. I also am a homeschool mom!

I have taught this class to different groups at a cooperative, for both lower and upper elementary students. I enjoy teaching a subject or principle and including different areas of study along with the original idea.

Homework Offered
Reading of the weekly book and book based project. I will also send links and printables to aid in the experience. 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class

Students will need a copy of the book. It can be downloaded on a Kindle device instantly, purchased directly, or borrowed from the library. Parents, I will email you a book list shortly after enrollment.

We will be making scientific journals during the first class, I will send the printable to the classroom, please have it printed. It is not hard to make but will require a stapler and glue. 

Students will also need supplies for their projects. Depending on what they want to do, most supplies will be on hand, such as paper, cardboard, glue, crayons, scissors... and if they'd like to just write a poem or build with legos... that is just as good!

In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:Kahoot

Science and history is full of things that can be unpleasant. During our reading we will learn about things like war, slavery, and illness, but we will also see how people overcame much of this, how science uses mistakes to make advancements, and we will learn how not to repeat the mistakes made in the past. This is a safe environment to learn in and a great place to express our feelings about events of the past.

Isaac Newton: Inventor, Scientist, and Teacher and Brief History of Time are just a couple of books I have read to prepare this course.
