Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 4
I'm thrilled to invite your child to a 5-week reading adventure to help them become more confident and skilled readers. In this class, we'll tackle INFERENCING—a reading skill that can be challenging for 3rd and 4th graders. Making inferences doesn't come naturally to most kids this age, and that's okay! We'll work together to break down this skill into fun, manageable steps that will help your child understand stories in a new way. My goal is to make learning inferencing something your child looks forward to!

WHAT PARENTS CAN EXPECT:

➡️ Your child will learn how to dig deeper into stories, beyond just reading the words on the page.

➡️ I'll break down inferencing into fun, bite-sized steps that won't feel overwhelming.

➡️ Expect lots of interactive activities, discussions, and games that make learning feel like play.

➡️ I'll help your child understand hidden meanings, figure out what characters are really thinking, and make smart connections

WHAT WE WILL COVER:

Each week, we’ll focus on different aspects of inferencing, combining direct instruction with hands-on activities that keep kids engaged and excited about learning.

Week 1: Introduction to Inferencing
We'll kick things off by exploring the difference between inferences and predictions. I'll show kids how to use what they already know to make smart guesses about what they're reading. We'll start with some fun picture activities to get the ball rolling!

Week 2: Using Text Evidence
This week is all about becoming text detectives! We'll learn how to spot important clues in stories and use them to figure out what's really going on. We'll chat about what we're reading and practice making inferences together.

Week 3: Character Inferences
It's character week! We'll dig into how to figure out what characters are feeling and why they do what they do. We'll play some games that'll have your kids thinking like the characters they're reading about.

Week 4: Setting and Plot Inferences
Settings can change everything in a story. We'll talk about how to use the where and when of a story to understand it better. We'll also look at how one thing in a story can cause another—it's like a story domino effect!

Week 5: Putting It All Together
For our grand finale, we'll put all our new skills to work! We'll tackle longer stories and work on projects together. Your child will get to show off all they've learned about inferencing.

MY TEACHING STYLE:

Think of me as your child's reading cheerleader! I keep things upbeat and make sure everyone feels good about sharing their ideas.

In each class, we'll mix things up with:
😍 Quick, fun lessons to introduce new ideas
😍 Lots of chances to talk and share thoughts
😍 Games that make learning feel like playtime
😍 Cool visuals and videos to help explain things

Join the Inferencing Skills Class to help your child become a more confident and skilled reader! Your child will have lots of chances to chat with me and their classmates. By the end of our time together, I bet your child will look at stories in a whole new light.
