At the beginning of class, we will go through a short warm up period of vocalization. I will assess the student’s level on that particular day through vocal exercises and talk with them to see if there is something specific they would like help on or want to focus on. After warming-up, we will dive into repertoire together. The student is responsible for choosing what song they would like to work on in lessons. I am more than willing to offer song suggestions if needed. Song genres can range...
As a student of this class, you will gain a better understanding of how vocal technique is applied to your specific voice and genre of singing. In addition, your performance of the piece(s) will improve, and you will love doing it again and again for the audience.
Having studied voice over 12 years with many fantastic teachers associated with prestigious universities, I am familiar with the basics of singing. The desire to be a Broadway star was what prompted my original vocal pursuits, but as I dove deeper into my studies, I began to aim at a different target as my voice was more suited for classical music. Now, as an aspiring opera star, I have learned that good technique is needed for any type of singing: popular, Broadway, choral, and opera. In addition, I have also taught private voice lessons to students ranging ages 8-40.
Preparation of your song is required. This time requirement varies per person, per song. I may give examples of singers you should look up in reference to a technique we are working on. This would be done outside of class. Warm-up exercises can also be used as technical exercises. I would suggest continuous work on these exercises as they get you to where you want to be quicker! There is no time commitment but know that I am a firm believer in the amount time put in is relative to what degree of success you get out of this course.
