Class Experience

This is an individualized class, so I do not have specific topics to cover until after meeting your learner and discussing their needs and goals. We could spend our sessions going over homework, practicing studying for tests, and going over challenging topics in Spanish. My teaching style is using scaffolding to allow learners to show what they know in their homework, studying, etc. in Spanish, and stepping in when needed to build on their skills and help them with the challenges that may arise. I also use my real life experience living in a Spanish speaking country and speaking daily with native speakers, to motivate learners in their Spanish journeys. When teaching, I use charts, music, and examples, images, and repetition. My target audience is learners who want to grow in their language skills in Spanish for their own personal growth, class performance, and/or being able to understand and thrive in their Spanish assignments.

Some examples of topics that we may cover in this class include:

* Spanish conjugations- I am skilled in teaching conjugations in Spanish because I know what it is like to learn them as a second language. My methods include using charts to show the 6 ways to use a verb-
1. I
2. You
3.He/she/it
4. We
5. You all
6. They

I have different mnemonics in place and to help learners memorize the endings that are used in Spanish for each of the 6 boxes in the chart.

*Spelling in Spanish

I enjoy teaching spelling rules because of how simple it is compared to English. I love that each vowel only can make one sound, and I show videos and songs to show this to help learners memorize the sounds each vowel makes in Spanish

*Spanish Vocabulary

I love teaching about masculine and feminine nouns in Spanish. It is so interesting to me and I love helping learners begin to explore this topic in Spanish and see how it isn't as difficult as it seems to remember which nouns are feminine and masculine.

I also love teaching about words that are similar in Spanish and English and how we can recognize my suffix and prefix patterns. For example, when a word ends in tion in English, like communication, it will likely be similar in Spanish and end in ción (comunicación)

*Pronunciation in Spanish

I love teaching about Spanish pronunciation. While my accent in Spanish is far from perfect, I believe I have expertise in this topic because of my daily conversations with Native Spanish speakers, and my three years of experience living in Latin America.
I also know what it's like to not be able to pronounce certain sounds in Spanish, but with practice I was able to pronounce the sounds in Spanish.
