Homework
1-2 hours per week. Writing homework will be assigned at the end of each class so that valuable learning time is not occupied in the mechanics of writing. The homework will always be optional; however, more growth and quicker gains will be evident when students write outside of class time.Grading
Teacher observations will always be available when I am asked.Class Experience
US Grade Kindergarten - 12
Reading and writing are the basis for all academic success, and sometimes it takes a special education teacher to help! Each lesson will be based upon individual learner need and be divided into three sections: reading, spelling and writing. I use a variety of engaging activities in my classes including: slides, songs and body movement. During the reading portion of each class, learners will work to develop missing phonics skills and to improve sight word fluency. Next, the spelling section will focus on learning and applying spelling patters and letter groups to spell any word, not just those learned by rote memorization. The final part of each class will develop writing skills. This part of the lesson will focus on learner need since writing ability varies from student to student. The writing portion of each lesson will be more effective if learners complete writing assignments outside of class time so that this section of the lesson can focus on skill building instead of the actual mechanics of writing. Conventions such as punctuation, capitalization, grammar and syntax are all emphasized during the editing process. Learners may begin by learning to construct an amazing sentence, or they may be ready to develop outstanding paragraphs utilizing varying sentence lengths and transitions. That is the benefit and joy of individualized lessons!
Learning Goals
Each lesson will be individually constructed to fit learner need.
Phonics, spelling, vocabulary and writing skills will be increased.
Soft skills such as active listening and generalization will improve as well.

Neuro-typical and neuro-diverse learners are welcomed and appreciated for their own unique talents and skills.
Since these tutoring classes are individualized for each learner, I design classes based upon each student's needs.
