Individualized Phonics, Reading and Writing Tutoring with Sami!
In this individualized tutoring session, I will meet students where they are and improve their phonics, reading and writing skills and help them gain academic confidence!
Class experience
I am looking forward to working with your child and meeting them where they are academically to help their reading and writing skills! After learning about your child, I will tailor the lesson to their specific learning needs. For phonics instruction, I follow the Orton-Gillingham method, as I am trained in this curriculum. In phonics, students will learn letters, letter sounds, and blending sounds to make words! In reading, we focus on reading complete sentences for early readers, and for upper-elementary students we focus on fluency and comprehension. If you would like your child to focus solely on writing, we can work on a variety of writing pieces, from personal narratives to informational texts. Within writing, we focus on strong sentences, spelling, vocabulary and grammar.
I am an educator with ten years of elementary classroom experience. I am trained in Orton-Gillingham, Readers and Writers Workshop models, and Fountas and Pinnell. I have taught grades K - 5 and have tutored children ages 4 - 12 in all subject areas!
Homework Offered
Homework will be given upon request.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
At the end of each session, I conduct a short, informal assessment of the lesson to see if all concepts were understood and mastered.Grades Offered
Paper, pencil, and sometimes a manipulative like Playdough.
I will use parts of the Orton-Gillingham method to teach phonics lessons, and I follow the "Recipe for Reading" order to teach letters and letter sounds.
