Learned progress is assessed in ongoing performance of assigned material.Class Experience
US Grade 5 - 8
Beginner - Intermediate Level
Students will learn in a one on one or small family group format where their needs and skills will drive the direction of the course. Each week will be a progression at the student's own pace and style. For starting students, I recommend Essential Elements Violin 1, it has a thorough approach to learning to read music, and a slower pace. It covers reading notation, theory, and playing technique. For students with prior experience playing instruments or reading music, I recommend Suzuki Volume 1 for Violin. This moves more quickly, and has a different approach to theory. It relies on both taught theory and ear training. If you are unsure which book would suit your student, don't hesitate to message me to discuss your student's needs, style, and experience. I prefer the Suzuki book for a wide range of students, but the Essential Elements is especially good for true beginners or for students who would like a slower pace.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to read music. Students will learn the basics of violin playing including bow control, finger positioning, tone and pitch, and basic music theory and reading notation.
