Class Experience
Is your young musician looking for a kind and supportive instructor? I hope you will consider taking ukulele lessons with me, Miss Katrina! What makes me unique? I have taught music in public schools for the past 8 years, and have experience teaching ukulele to kids of all ages!! Plus, I have lots of puppets, instruments and songs to make learning the ukulele fun! In my lessons, students are welcomed into a positive, fun environment and encouraged to grow their abilities. In these one-on-one classes, we will practice proper ukulele strumming and performance technique, learn music literacy skills, and have fun playing a new instrument. If your son or daughter is younger than 8 years old, they can still have success on the ukulele! We begin slowly to learn strumming, practice steady beat, and use silly songs to practice finger strength and technique. I have experience in teaching young students on how to properly hold their instruments and how to isolate finger movements. I will also use puppets and games to make learning fun and engaging! After the first lesson, students are asked to purchase a text: Alfred's Ukulele Course 1, available on amazon and in some local music stores, to aide in music instruction.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Welcome friends,
My name is Miss Katrina, and I love teaching at Outschool!! I am a creative arts educator with 8 years of public teaching experience. I love music, theater, art, and of course, teaching students of all ages!! Are you looking for individual instrumental lessons or small group music/art classes with an enthusiastic teacher? You are in the right place!!
During my lessons, my goal is to connect with each student and create a positive and fun learning experience. We will move and groove, sing and play, explore creativity, and make connections with other students near and far! No matter the age, I believe arts education can help students develop self-esteem, learn to cope with difficult situations and emotions, and increase achievement in all areas of their education.
My professional background in teaching started when I earned my Bachelors degree in Music Education from Eastern Michigan University and continued as I received extra teaching training from Arizona State University. I have taught in public elementary schools for the past 8 years and also taught music lessons for individuals or small groups. I studied woodwind instruments (flute, clarinet and saxophone) in University, but also love playing guitar, ukulele and piano. Finally, I have experience teaching arts and crafts camps through the city parks department!!
When I am not teaching, I spend time with my family and my cute, little dog Annie or go for a hike the Arizona desert and mountains. I even go rock climbing when the weather is nice!
I can't wait to meet you!!
