We will meet to help Zoe become more independent with utilizing a variety of decoding strategies independently. We will also focus on looking for parts we know, skipping words and coming back, chunking words, trying two vowel sounds, long vowel patterns. Ultimately our goal is to help Zoe be more flexible with decoding strategies and begin to try more than one strategy if she comes to an unknown word. We also focus on comprehension strategies such as the lesson in the story in fiction and main idea and details in nonfiction.

I have a Master's in Elementary and Special Education, a B.A. in Psychology. I am certified to teach in New York State and am also a certified Mindfulness for Children Practitioner. I have been teaching since 2006 and love to break things down and help students discover what works best for them. I have taught grades 1-6 in traditional schools and have experience providing home school instruction. My areas of focus are reading, math strategies, sight words, word study and motivating reluctant writers. I want my students to learn something new, but also discover a little bit about how they learn as that will help them for years to come. I often use humor to keep my students engaged and entertained during my classes. I live with my husband and two naughty cats in Florida.
