Class Experience

This is a private tutoring class geared toward individualized instruction. Teacher Curtis will help students understand the way they personally learn and strategize through different skills in order to help make the learner more confident in his/her academic ability. This will be a individual tutoring class. I personally understand how hard it can be to learn in a classroom setting where no learning modifications are made. I will use different skills and strategies to empower the student and give them an individualized learning plan to help with learning strategies. I will be teaching the session by interacting with the student and using powerpoint slides. This class will focus around mostly discussion. There are no requirements to began 1:1 classes.

Master's Degree in Education from Cumberland University
Hello, I am Teacher Curtis! I am a special education student who turned into a special education TEACHER! With over 15 years of experience teaching students with learning disabilities, I personally understand how difficult it is to learn in a traditional education setting when you are a student with a learning disability and severe dyslexia. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Educational Studies, a Master's Degree in Special Education and I am currently in pursuit of my Doctoral Degree. I have a passion for helping students with disabilities in all subject areas - especially reading, writing, comprehension, study skills, memorization, test-taking skills, and even life skills. I believe that all students have the ability to be anything they can dream of, however since all students learn differently, teachers must allow each child to learn differently. I struggled academically throughout my entire elementary through high school experience and barely graduated high school. In fact, I didn't even know if I would graduate from high school. Luckily, I was able to figure out the way that I learned. Everyone has their own unique way of learning and I was able to "tap into that ability". Once I mastered this, I was able to graduate with my Master's Degree with a 4.0 GPA. I was able to do this with absolutely no modifications. Through this experience, it has given me insight into how individual students learn. This does not just apply to students with learning disabilities or dyslexia. This applies to each and every student - typical or with a disability. I would love to develop a personalized learning plan and course of action for your child, in order for them to excel in academics, as well as have the confidence that they deserve for the rest of their life. A few fun facts about me - I love making model cars, playing basketball, playing the drums, and spending time with my family!
