Class Experience

Through meeting with your child on a regular basis, I hope to help him or her develop more interest in the Chinese language and culture, and develop confidence in their ability to speak Chinese.

The results of this private tutoring will be based largely on what you, as a parent, are hoping your child to focus on. There are four main aspects to learning any language: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. I've found that prioritizing them in that order (first: listening; second: speaking, etc) is very effective, especially since the reading and writing aspects are relatively easier to practice on your own. Rapidly developing listening and speaking skills is great preparation to be in an immersion environment. However, I can focus more evenly on all four aspects if that's what you would like.

Depending on your child's learning style, we may play simple games to reinforce what has been learned and create a relaxed learning environment where your child can feel comfortable asking questions.

Hi! My name is Hailey, and I teach Mandarin Chinese classes for beginning or intermediate students. I'm a recent college graduate with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Chinese Dual Language Immersion Teaching for grades K-12.

I learned much of my Chinese when I lived in Taiwan for 18 months, and I have continued to study the language at my university and on my own. I loved every day in Taiwan as I practiced Chinese through conversing with locals. There's a huge feeling of accomplishment that comes with learning a new language--especially one as useful and fun as Mandarin--and I love helping students experience that!

I wish to create a relaxed learning environment in each class so students can feel comfortable speaking up and asking questions. My goal with every class is to help learners feel confident in their Mandarin abilities. Every student is important! Class will be engaging and fun :)
