This one to one class will use the Orton-Gillingham method to teach your child to read using phonics in a multi-sensory way to help your visual, auditory, and/or kinesthetic learner. #confidence

US Grade Preschool - 4
Beginner - Advanced Level
Each lesson is customized to meet the needs of the individual learner. A sample 25 minute lesson might follow this structure: 

Warm Up 
(2 -3 min) Letter Sounds 
(2 - 3 min) Rhyming 
(3 - 5 min) Sight Words 
(3 - 5 min) Phonics Skill Game 

Reading 
(2 - 3 min) Letter Sound Book 
(2 - 3 min) Sight Word Book 
(5 min) Phonics Decodable Book 
(5 min) Leveled Reader

Closing Activity 
(2 - 3 min) Game/Reinforcement 

Topics covered in these lessons can include but are not limited to phonemic awareness, rhyming, sight words, phonics skills, syllabication, decoding, and encoding. 

Class schedule is designed to meet the needs of the individual learner. Schedule below is just an example. Learners may begin 1:1 sessions at any time during the year.

Weekly lesson plans can be customized to meet the needs of the individual learner. I try to use multi-sensory techniques whenever possible. I am trained in Orton - Gillingham techniques, which are often beneficial for struggling readers and students with dyslexia.

Hi, I specialize in teaching reading. It is my passion to introduce students to books and develop a love for reading in kids of all ages. I have a masters degree in education from Columbia University's Teachers College and a special education certificate in special education from Brooklyn College in New York City. I have worked as a peer tutor, as a test prep tutor, and as an Orton-Gillingham tutor, helping students overcome various reading difficulties to achieve their goals. I also worked as a reading teacher and a special education teacher at a title 1 charter school in NYC.  I believe that every child has the potential to become an avid reader, we just have to ignite their passion and build their skills in an individualized way. I recently moved from NYC to live near the ocean. My hobbies include going to the beach, traveling, playing tennis, and or course READING!
