“We Can Read Our Books” is a reading course to teach young readers four elements needed to lay the foundation for fluent, cognitive and competent literacy. There are six lessons in the course. In each class session students are helped with reading a simple story about everyday life to capture and maintain a young reader’s interest. Each lesson has four learning activities. The first supports correct spelling of three and four letter words from the lesson. The second helps develop attention to story details. The third reinforces word recognition by filling in missing letters in words. The fourth encourages the student’s critical thinking and verbal expression about the reading lesson. For each story, learners will: 1) Circle the correct word in multiple-choice review questions 2) Do spelling by filling in blanks in the words with one of these letters (a, e, i, o, u) 3) Practice review questions In between the reading and assignments, there will be some fun related videos, along with some time for some discussions about what was read in the lesson. There will be one 30-minute meeting per week. Here is the class schedule: Lesson 1 - Andy and His Pet Lesson 2 - A Bird In The Tree Lesson 3 - Things In The Sky Lesson 4 - Ann Has a Birthday Lesson 5 - Bonnie Likes Yellow Butterflies Lesson 6 - We Like To Go To School
