** New to Outschool? Use code MelanieWia2020 to save $20! ** In this one-time tutoring session, students can have the one-on-one experience of practicing their chess skills with me, their teacher! This class is to provide newer students the opportunity to ask questions, consider new moves, and have the opportunity to learn some new strategies. This is a great opportunity for someone who has just learned the basics of chess and wants to have more hands on time practicing their skills in a patient and helpful setting. During this time we will play a game or games of chess together and the student can request to learn any new moves or practice particular skills that they want to work on such as opening moves, how to place your opponent in checkmate, or special moves (castling, 4-move checkmate).

Hello Outschool families,
My name is Melanie Wiancko, but you can call me Mrs. Mel! I am a Canadian teacher who loves solving puzzles, hiking, jogging, reading, and playing games! I hope to offer courses that spark your interest in history, geography, math, travel, escape rooms, chess, world religion, and more!
Experience: I have received my Bachelor of Education from Nipissing University and my Bachelor of Arts in History from Brock University. I am a certified teacher in Ontario, Canada, and I also have specific qualifications in intermediate math and intermediate/senior history and geography. I have experience teaching English online to English Language Learners ranging in ages from three to fifteen. I love teaching online and the opportunity to connect with students of all ages from around the world. We all have something to learn from one another!
Teaching Philosophy: As a lifelong learner, I believe that learning is best experienced when it is interactive, engaging, and is something that you are passionate about. In my classroom, students will be provided with the opportunity to explore their passions in interactive ways through pictures, discussion, games, and more.
