Description
Class Experience
Students will learn/review many literary devices such as theme, compare and contrast, figurative language, text structure, conflict, flashbacks, personification, symbolism, metaphors, similes, irony, and characterization. Students will also learn many new vocabulary words and will use them throughout the unit in discussion and written response. Students will also practice how to have a discussion in the classroom; these discussion skills can be applied to everyday life as well.
The materials needed will be: student selected novel, pencil, and paper.
Informal assessment will be used to determine if the student is comprehending the material. Question and answering and application of the skills in class will serve as the main form of teacher assessment.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
