US Grade Kindergarten - 3
Students will engage in various hands on activities that build upon their reading and writing skills. This class will focus on building upon current skills. The content and lessons will change depending on your child's needs and abilities. We will review and learn the following topics: Reading: 1. Sight Words 2. Short vowels 3. Beginning blends 4. Ending blends 5. Digraphs 6. Long vowels 7. Glued sounds 8. R-controlled vowels 1. Syllables 2. Rhyming 3. Segmenting/sounding out 4. Building words 5. Substituting sounds 6. Word manipulation 7. Word meanings 8. Synonyms 9. Antonyms Writing: 1. What is a complete sentence. 2. How to make sentences more descriptive. 3. Parts of a sentence - noun, proper noun, verb, adjective 4. How to use punctuation marks - period, question mark, exclamation mark 5. How to plan, write, and edit non-fiction, fiction, poetry, and informational paragraphs 6. Basic editing skills 7. How to start and end a story 8. Proper letter formations 9. Grammar rules Students will engage in various hands on activities that build upon their math skills. The content and lessons will change depending on your child's needs and abilities. Math: 1. Adding and subtracting - 1,2,3 digits 2. Skip Counting by 2s, 5s, 10s 4. How to solve number problems 5. What is place value 6. Geometry 7. How to create, read, and use graphs 8. Ways to demonstrate thinking in written and symbol form 9. How to tell time to the hour and half hour 10. How to count coins and their values 11. How to be an efficient mathematician
Learning Goals
Students will build upon their reading skills and build confidence in their reading ability. Students will improve their overall understanding of the writing process, grammar, and letter formation. They will learn and practice how to transfer their ideas into written format. Students will build upon basic math skills and be able to demonstrate understanding of the foundational math concepts.

Supply List
Students need paper, pencil, white board, dry erase markers (if possible) and coloring materials for each class. There may be other various materials needed for classes that will be posted to the classroom page prior to class.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Maria Ramirez is a Massachusetts licensed Elementary Teacher who has been teaching children for over a decade in public, private and charter schools including after school and summer programs. The majority of her teaching has taken place in first and second grade classrooms. She guides children's natural curiosities to explore, investigate, create, problem solve, collaborate, and take risks in a safe and encouraging environment.
