Description
Class Experience
I offer Orton-Gillingham based instruction (currently tucked into an online format). Sessions take about 30 minutes to complete. I am somewhat flexible with the time that this is offered vs the same class in "small group" format. If you have 2 children you'd like to enroll, for example, I can potentially tutor them at the same time. In addition to learning the skills needed to decode, lessons will include work around vocabulary, spelling, writing complete sentences, and fluency. I also...
Students will learn to read (decode words), build vocabulary knowledge, improve spelling and writing skills, and increase reading fluency.
There will be no "assigned" homework, but I will share activities that caregivers have the option of using at home with their child to help improve their reading skills. In my experience, children who are immersed in literacy experiences (from school, home, and tutoring) make the most progress, and the combined efforts can even close the existing reading gap completely.
Please have a piece of textured material in which the student can trace their finger over as needed (it can be fabric, textured paper, sandpaper, clay in a tray, etc.). This will be needed from time to time to assist with letter-reversal work and spelling.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:

I use informal assessments to discover where to begin with a student, as well as for monitoring progress, and for making instructional decisions.
2 hours per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
