Individual Reading & Dyslexia Intervention

In this course, I first assess your child's current reading capabilities and areas of weakness. Based on my findings, I use a multi-sensory, structured approach to remediate reading, spelling, writing, and other language skills.

Mastery Evaluation
1 hour per week. Ms. Boehme will be able to provide periodic updates on concepts covered, progress, and regression.
Progress Report
Ms. Boehme can provide a written report (via email) at the request of the parent.

Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
Beginner Level
1. Students will work one-on-one with Ms. Boehme to improve their reading, writing, and spelling abilities via Zoom.
2. Each lesson will last 30 minutes and consist of Rapid Naming, Reading/Spelling Cards, Handwriting, New Concept, Reading, Spelling, Extended Reading/Writing, Oral Language, and Read-aloud if time permits.
3. Ms. Boehme uses a multi-sensory, structured approach, Basic Language Skills, which is a Neuhaus Curriculum.
4. Ms. Boehme believes in using humor and empathy to establish a good rapport with each student, allowing them to feel comfortable in themselves and make great progress together as a team.
5. The class will consist of Ms. Boehme sharing her screen to display her ipad and whiteboard for direct instruction, and the student will sometimes be asked to use their whiteboard at home and show Ms. Boehme their work for immediate feedback.  We will also  work together using materials from readers, instructional aides, cards, videos, games, etc. that Ms. Boehme will screen share.

Learning Goals

1. Students will be able to correlate each letter to it's sound(s).
2. Students will learn what a syllable consists of, and with time, be able to identify and use the six syllable types to decode unfamiliar words.

Student Intake Assessments
 I will perform Basic Language Skills Mastery Checks, Words Their Way Spelling Inventories, and Running Records to ascertain Fluency/Comprehension during the initial lesson to determine where to begin in the BLS Program with your child.

Other Details

Learning Needs
This class is specifically designed to remediate students with Dyslexia, Specific Learning Disabilities in Reading, Attention Issues, and other Special Needs. Additionally, any struggling reader can benefit from BLS.
Pre-Requisites
It would be beneficial for students taking this class to have mastered The Alphabetic Principle-know that letters represent the sounds of speech in words, and know how to translate letters into sounds to read and pronounce words.

A whiteboard (lined is preferable with a top, mid, and bottom line), dry erase markers, and an eraser
