Assessment
Progress will be assessed by monitoring student's reading, writing and participation. You child's progress will be assessed through weekly dictation of words and sentences based on the concept taught. A learning plan time frame will be developed and at the end of the time frame your child will be assessed. The assessment will determine if a new learning plan needs to be developed.

Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 4
As a one-to-one tutor I will create an Individual Learning Plan for your child to ensure they will reach their full potential. The sessions will follow the Orton-Gillingham structured approach that breaks reading and spelling down into smaller skills involving letters and sounds, and then will build on these skills over time. Your child will learn new concepts through visual, auditory, and kinesthetic pathways. Each lesson will include a review, a new concept or skill, a practice time that includes games and activities. The sessions will also include a variety of texts and stories that provide the learner with practice in applying their decoding skills, fluency, and comprehension. The first class will be to create a learning plan by determining which reading concepts your child needs. The following classes will focus on these concepts.

Learning Goals

The learner will gain reading fluency by encoding (spelling/writing) and decoding (reading) single and multi-syllable words based on their individual needs determined by their learning plan. The learner will improve comprehension through reading passages based on concepts taught.
