Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 10
Math tutoring for students who need help with 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, Pre-Algebra, or Algebra. Typical topics include multiplication, division, decimals, fractions, equations, ratios, rates, and percentages.

All tutoring sessions are tailored to each student. Please send a detailed message outlining the learner's strengths and weaknesses in math and the goal of the tutoring.

Please note that the message listed above needs to be completed 24 hours before. If this is not achieved the first session will be an assessment for placement purposes instead of a tutoring session.

Please note: I offer tutoring by request only. I will set up a private section for you to enroll in.

Communication is key. I will give a detailed report of each tutoring session after the session within 24 hours.

I am familiar with many different curriculums, however, access is limited. If there is a specific curriculum you would like me to use you will need to provide access or copies. Otherwise, I will use my current resources from my personal library.

I am a non traditional teacher, no lectures here!
Instead my classes focus on being:
*Student Centered- they lead the pace
*Critical Thinking -complex tasks are given that may be a bit unusual but will cause students to think deeply
*Problem Solving- word problems to keep concepts in context
*Focus on discovering patterns- patterns is the basis of the study of algebra and higher levels of math thinking
*Students create their understanding versus being told what to think

I am constantly learning how to become a better math teacher! I have a Master's degree in Math Education but I don't believe that means I know everything. In fact I am constantly reading about the brain, and the best ways to teach math. I also am constantly evaluating my classes and content and making changes based on how learners interact with the material.

I have 13 years of experience in Education, and have taught math at all levels including adults.

In my down time, I love hanging with my husband, and two girls. We love to read books, play games and do math together (of course:)
