Indian Festival Dances #4: Navratri Themed Bollywood Dance - Garba! (Ages 3-6)
Class experience
We will learn about Navratri, and how it is celebrated in India in a fun & engaging way. It is celebrated for 9 days (Oct 7-15 2021). The class will alternate between learning kid-friendly cultural concepts around Navratri in a non-religious way, and dancing to upbeat Bollywood music. My approach to teaching is very interactive. I break down steps in a way that is easy for learners to relate to things they see & activities they do everyday. I also provide cultural context to the moves to make...
The main goal of this class is to get kids excited about celebrating festivals, and learning about cultural traditions through movement. We will learn active dance moves to upbeat Bollywood music along with understanding the significance of the festival. The class also aims at achieving basic coordination, rhythm, and memory. Younger kids will be able to perform the dance with help, older kids should be able to dance by themselves!
Welcome! I'm Priya Raman (or Miss Priya as kids call me), the founder of Dance With Miss Priya. I am a Chicago-based dance educator, deeply passionate about dance and teaching kids. I've been dancing for as long as I can remember! Growing up in a small college campus town of Pilani in Rajasthan, India, I trained in the Indian Classical dance form of Bharatanatyam, and danced my way through school and college, exploring various dance forms. I was also fortunate to experience the importance of diversity and inclusion at a young age through interactions in my community as well as the influence of my parents who are both educators. After moving to the United States in 2013, I discovered my love for teaching through various opportunities, and decided to pursue what truly makes me happy - dancing and teaching kids. I have been teaching kids of all ages and diverse learner needs for ~9 years. My past professional experience includes running a dance + culture kids program in after-school programs + dance studios, performing & Interacting with multicultural audiences all over Chicago. Creating engaging curriculum and interacting with kids gives me a high like no other! Through my content, I strive to provide a glimpse into India's various genres of dance and it’s beautiful culture with active dance routines set to upbeat Bollywood tunes. In my classes, your child will be welcomed into a positive, encouraging, and inclusive learning environment to explore the magical world of Indian Dance and Culture! I love sharing step by step tutorials and follow along dances on my YouTube channel: youtube.com/dancewithmisspriya and you can also find more dance content and updates on my Instagram page: @dancewithmisspriya My website: www.dancewithmisspriya.com
