Class Experience

This class combines elements from my one day classes to provide an ongoing curriculum to help learners prepare for independent programs. This is a child lead class where the teacher follows the needs and flow of the group. The goal is to create a space where children can feel empowered and build confidence. This class is centered around fostering social-emotional development rather than teaching specific academic concepts. However academic concepts will be organically incorporated into each lesson using play-based methods to result in a more natural learning environment. Children will be encouraged to talk to each other as much as possible.

Here is the class breakdown: The schedule may be altered on the day of each class depending on the needs of the learners and what time permits.

ACTIVITY BENEFIT
Name Introductions - Helps children with public speaking skills. Teaches children how to listen to others.
Story Time - Builds early literacy skills, teaches empathy and understanding by hearing about people with different perspectives and stories.
Movement Song and/or Game - Gives children a brain break and builds body awareness.
Craft/Sensory Time - Builds fine motor skills.
Share Time - Helps with oral language skills and communication, Encourages active listening, Builds self confidence

***PLEASE NOTE: Class run time is dependent on the size of the class as well as the participation of the learners. Classes may run a few minutes late if learners are super talkative (and I hope they are!) You are always welcome to leave class whenever you need to for your schedule.

In order for learners to get proper social interaction during this class, I will have a minimum of 4 learners needed to start the session. If I do not have enough learners by the beginning of the session, I will push the class back to provide more time for learners to enroll. You will be notified 72 hours before the first day if class is cancelled and refunded for any weeks that the class is not held. *****

Learning Goals
The goal of this class is for learners to gain confidence and independence by interacting with the teacher and fellow learners on their own. Children will hear stories about people who may be different than them. Discussions after the stories will foster kindness, empathy, and give children a new perspective. In the end, I hope to create an environment that produces children who are on track to be good citizens of the world.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Parents are asked to stay close enough by to hear what is going on during class in case a learner needs assistance. Occasionally I will give you a project to work on with your child for something that can be used for the following week of classes. For example, I may send a recipe to make play doh, colored rice, colored salt etc. Then the project will be used as our sensory item for a class or more in the upcoming weeks. We may also start a project in class that will need to be finished after class. I will always give the parents a heads up when this happens.
Supply List
Leaners will need basic art supplies like crayons, child safe scissors, markers, pencils, paint, paper, paint brushes, construction paper and glue. A printer will be helpful for printing pages and crafts sent to you. (If you do not have access to a printer, please let me know and I will try to provide an alternative option.)

Sensory items such as kinetic sand, play doh, water beads, (colored) rice, dry pasta and colored salt will be alternated in classes. I will always try to give you a few days notice when these items will be needed to give you time to get or make them. Please do no hesitate to let me know if you have a problem getting something, I do not want children to be left out due to lack of supplies.

I will send you a syllabus for the week's classes a few days ahead of time to give you time to gather supplies.
