Description

Class Experience

The goal of this class is for learners to gain confidence and independence by interacting with the teacher and fellow learners on their own. Children will hear stories about people who may be different than them. Discussions after the stories will foster kindness, empathy, and give children a new perspective. In the end, I hope to create an environment that produces children who are on track to be good citizens of the world.
I have been teaching toddler and pre-school aged children for all of my teaching career. I created an Independent Child program for the center where I taught in person classes until 2020. I am excited to bring a virtual version of this program to Outschool!
Parents will occasionally be given the option to do a project with their student that can be used for class. Students will also need to finish some crafts that were started but not completed in class.
Leaners will need basic art supplies like crayons, child safe scissors, markers, pencils, paint, paper, paint brushes, construction paper and glue. A printer will be helpful for printing pages and crafts sent to you. (If you do not have access to a printer, please let me know and I will try to provide an alternative option.) Sensory items such as kinetic sand, play doh, water beads, (colored) rice, dry pasta and colored salt will be alternated in classes. I will always try to give you a few days notice when these items will be needed to give you time to get or make them. Please do no hesitate to let me know if you have a problem getting something, I do not want children to be left out due to lack of supplies. I will send you a syllabus for the week's classes a few days ahead of time to give you time to gather supplies.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
N/A
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Parents are asked to stay close enough by to hear what is going on during class in case a learner needs assistance.

Occasionally I will give you a project to work on with your child for something that can be used for the following week of classes. For example, I may send a recipe to make play doh, colored rice, colored salt etc. Then the project will be used as our sensory item for a class or more in the upcoming weeks.

We may also start a project in class that will need to be finished after class. I will always give the parents a heads up when this happens.
