Assessment
Student quiz scores and responses are visible to me, but in a class such as this one, the focus is not on being "correct", but on personal growth and development. When a student is off base and not understanding the material, I gently guide them with questions to help them think more deeply.

Class Experience

Connection is central to human need. Unchecked anger can cause strain on relationships, leading to increasingly negative emotions and experiences. No one is happy when they struggle to control their anger. Anger often masks other negative emotions, such as sadness, embarrassment and frustration. The good news is that children can learn to identify what is causing their angry outbursts and deal with those emotions appropriately. Learning to be in control of oneself leads to confidence, contentment and stronger personal relationships.

In this class, we will discuss the root causes of anger in an age appropriate manner. We will practice identifying the causes of outbursts in examples and learn ways to effectively communicate what we feel. We will also learn and practice coping skills that can be used to regulate emotions.

For young children to understand and retain emotional education, it is necessary for caregivers to partner with them in daily practice of their new skills. Information and tools for caretakers are included in the class, and will help with putting what we learn into practice. I highly encourage caregivers to sit in on the class to learn and play along with their student! The course schedule is as follows:

Week One:
Normalizing negative emotions
Developing an emotional vocabulary
Learning extension activities and quiz

Week Two:
Identification of emotions in scenarios
Continuation of emotional vocabulary development
Learning extension exercises and quiz

Week Three:
First steps to coping
Self care to assist with emotional needs
Learning extension exercises and quiz

Week Four:
Needs based coping
Learning extension exercises and quiz
