Class Experience
This course will cover the key areas which children need to know and understand in order to improve their comprehension of texts. The emphasis will be on discussion, questioning and searching for meaning. Throughout the course, we will be using extracts from the following texts: 'The Diary of a Killer Cat' by Anne Fine 'The Tear Thief' by Carol Ann Duffy 'The Hodgeheg' by Dick King-Smith Several short texts of my own. Students will improve their ability to make personal connections with a text, retrieve information, explain their answers, summarize, make predictions and infer meaning. Students will increase their vocabulary knowledge.
I am an English Specialist with 37 years' teaching experience.
Work not completed in class will be given as homework.
All reading material will be uploaded to the classroom by the teacher, prior to each class.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Ongoing informal assessment.
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
