Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 8
It is not required to attend any previous class in order to participate in this ongoing class. Please feel free to sign up at any time. But each will be be individualized by student participation. IT IS NOT REQUIRED TO TAKE ANY PREVIOUS CLASS TO JOIN IN THE CLASS. EVERY CLASS IS INDIVIDUAL AND NEW MEMBERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME.

This class is a structured, safe space where we rehearse our speaking voice in the presence of peers. Students find this class useful for a variety of reasons: learning to ‘speak up’ (be it in the classroom or at the dinner table); increasing performance confidence whether for speaking, singing, or playing an instrument; practicing organizing your thoughts into coherent, persuasive phraseology; or gearing up for in-cass presentations and even public speaking competitions. I am happy to boast that this class has produced several state and regional competition winners.

Shy? Do not worry! Many of my students start that way.

Outspoken? I will help you channel your energy into effective and persuasive self expression.

All levels, skill-sets, and ambitions are welcome. We will have you well on the way to achieving your goals very quickly.

Classes are kept small (4 students max) so that each student has a chance to speak during each meeting. In-class participation varies between prepared presentations, famous poems, historical speeches, and other curated prose designed to explore and accentuate the various elements of effective speaking.

Your first class is very low pressure. And the peer group is extremely encouraging and patient.

This class is about building skill and confidence, so each week we will work together to master this important skill. The class will end with suggestions for speaking practice and taking volunteers from which students should be prepared to speak in the next session. YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO SPEAK UNTIL YOU ARE COMFORTABLE.

We can get through this together! This class will definitely help your student gain confidence, skill, and increase their leadership potential.

Public Speaking can be fun!

Please note that you can subscribe and unsubscribe to this class at any time. It is not required to take the class in the week before in order to participate in the current week's class.

Hello! I’m Sondra Rapoport, your friendly neighborhood Roman Historian. I taught with Harvard University's Dept. of Classics for 6 years as a Head Teaching Fellow. I taught Medieval Culture, Roman Games (gladiators), and The Rome of Augustus, for which I was nominated for the Levenson Teaching Award and won awards for distinction in teaching each semester I taught with Harvard. Now, I homeschool my son and I greatly enjoy adapting my knowledge and classes designed for university level to each of his grade levels. On of my goals is to bring Classics into the modern world. I have also won several state level competitions in various forms of public speaking and have 20 years of public speaking experience.
