Time Management for Students in Grades 3 to 5, Ages 8-10.At the end of the class your student will accurately estimate time, prioritize tasks, use scheduling tools, and learn to manage common challenges with a variety of tools. Homework and extracurricular activities increase exponentially at this age - it is critical for kids to learn how to manage their time at school and home. The goal of this class is simple - teach your child to manage his/her time independenrly and purposefully. The process of learning HOW to manage time is less simple because it is multi-faceted and requires the development of multiple executive function related skills.Specifically time management involves assessing and reflecting on individual skills, sequencing, scheduling and planning, understanding elapsed time and identifying good/bad uses of time, and estimating time.A large part of my job is to keep kids engaged and having fun while simplifying this process. During the class expert teaching, dynamic worksheets, hands-on tasks, and engaging group discussions encourage students to ask a set of essential questions - -What do I need to do now? What do I need to do later? -Is this task necessary? Is it a time waster? -Am I on track? Do I need to make adjustments before moving forward? I help students answer these questions by leading them to identify their strengths and challenges, be time-wise, plan larger long-term projects, think flexibly, and set goals in order to accomplish desired and undesired tasks. Students actually enjoy learning how to work smarter and show great pride in their efficiency. This class is highly interactive. I ask students to turn on and keep on their camera and mic during our time together. Students should come prepared with appropriate printables (posted on the class page), colored pencils/highlighters and a pencil. Some activities require a few additional, easy-to-find household supplies, such as a ruler and lined paper. I aim to teach classes that are "just right" - not too strict, not too unstructured, not too easy and not too challenging. As a teacher, I provide a predictable structure in which students are encouraged to take risks, try their best and work hard to master new concepts. Using time-centric brain teasers, riddles and stories make this a fun class where engaged and attentive students emerge with an excellent ability to manage their time wisely. Schedule &Topics - WEEK 1, class 1 & 2 - INTRO, SELF ASSESS & REFLECT WEEK 2, class 3 & 4 - SEQUENCING & SCHEDULING WEEK 3, class 5 & 6 - PLANNING & SMART GOAL WEEK 4, class 7 & 8 - ESTIMATING TIME & ELAPSED TIME WEEK 5, class 9 & 10 - USES OF TIME & SUMMARY I look forward to helping your student learn to work smarter, not harder:-)

Teacher expertise and credentials
**UPDATED AS OF FEB 1, 2025 I AM TAKING A TEACHING SABBATICAL FOR BOTH GROUP CLASSES AND 1:1**
I am passionate about teaching children to make meaning out of the text by exercising their comprehension and analytical abilities, developing language skills, improving memory, and expanding their understanding of the world when they comprehend the written word. When I get to be a part of the process of children coming to understand the text and its meaning, I feel fulfilled as an educator and know that these are valuable life skills.
I have spent the past 13 years studying executive functioning and organizational abilities in young children, middle schoolers, and high schoolers for professional and for personal reasons. I have been fortunate enough to attend several professional conferences focusing on the connections between neurodevelopment and paying attention, organizing, planning, prioritizing, task initiation, understanding different points of view, regulating emotions, and self-monitoring (keeping track of what you are doing). My knowledge deepened when, in 2020, I began working as a study skills and executive functioning tutor.
My Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Master of Science in Child Development allow me to design developmentally appropriate lessons optimized for student success. Twenty-four years of combined experience teaching in public school, tutoring, and being a licensed Pediatric Developmental Therapist has given me tools to educate ages 3 through 18. Additionally, working as an online ESL teacher has equipped me with the skills and knowledge necessary to engage students in a virtual classroom, use digital material and master a variety of live online applications.
When not teaching, I'm busy being a mom to my three children. During my free time you'll find me engrossed in one of my favorite hobbies: foster animal care, loom knitting, tap dancing, or planting in my garden. You will always see me with a book:-)
