Improve Reading With Silly Syllables! (Ages 6-8)
Students will learn to identify and read words using the syllable types: open, closed, final -e, vowel team, R- control, and consonant -le.

In this class we will be learning about closed syllable words and how to decode (read) them. We will be using different forms of media to practice this skill together. See below for a breakdown of each class. Day 1: 1. We will review open and closed syllables 2. Teacher will model identifying vowels in closed syllable words, chunking the words into syllables, then reading the words while students complete the handout with the teacher. Day 2: 1. We will review the main points from day one (short vowel sounds, open and closed syllables) 2. Students will learn to identify and read words with final -e and vowel team syllables Day 3: 1. We will review previously taught syllables 2. Student will identify and read words containing R- control and consonant -le words

Students will need the use of scissors and glue for these activities
Supply List
You can print all slides from the lessons so your child can follow along on paper or simply print the slides that have directions for activities on them prior to the class, if you are unable to print them, your child can used a pencil and lined paper and write the words into a chart, which I will model for them if necessary.

Hi, I am certified to teach all subjects grades K-6, and reading grades K-12. It is my passion to introduce students to books and develop a love for reading in kids of all ages. I have a degree in education from Edison State College. I have worked as a peer tutor, and hold a clinical educators certificate and work as mentor teacher for students seeking a career in education. I have taught grades K, 2, 3, 5, 7, and 8. I believe that every child has the potential to become an avid reader, we just have to ignite their passion and build their skills in an individualized way. I have been living in Florida for 21 years and enjoy spending time with my family, going to the beach, and of course, READING!
