Hello and thank you for checking out my class! This is a basic class, introducing students to various improv games. Improv is an excellent skill that helps people conquer fears and learn how to work collaboratively in a comfortable setting. Improvisation is a great way to help students work on communication and social skills. These are highly interactive classes where students are expected to talk with one another and practice fun and growth-building improv activities. Day 1: Students will be introduced to Improv. We will discuss how improv can be useful to us in everyday life, how we use improv daily already, and the rules of improv. We will discuss the concept of "Yes, and..." and play games that work on building acceptance and team work skills. Games: Word Ball, Yes, and..., One Word Story Day 2: We will review the rules, add on to "Yes, and..." and include a few more games: Whoosh...Whoa, Sentence -Response, Dr. Know-it-All. Day 3: Games to be included: Rumor Has It, What are You Doing?, Scenes From a Hat, Family Portrait Day 4: Last Day we will introduce more complicated games: Questions Only, 3 Word Stories, Yeah-Yeah-Yeah, Character Bus, Bob is Late Again This class has many opportunities for reflection and discussion. We continue each of the games introduced the day before, but add more to them every day. The class is structured so that students feel comfortable. The first meeting is really all about getting to know each other and getting comfortable in class. We play a lot of ice breakers and ask getting to know you questions. For each game we play, I will explain what each one is like, give examples, and give students plenty of time to practice.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello and happy exploring! My name is Jennifer Sumis and I am a 7/8 grade Social Studies teacher in Chicago, Illinois. I love teaching and have been happily teaching for 10 years. I never thought I could love something as much as I love to be in the classroom, whether it is in person or virtual. My educational background includes obtaining my bachelor's degree in secondary education from Millikin University. I received my teaching certificate in the state of Illinois. I have also found a love of teaching English online to students in China. I am also a mother of a 12 year old boy and we do many things to enjoy life! Random interesting fact: I dressed up as a zombie and helped to promote a 5K zombie run at a Chicago convention. How much fun I had!!
I am currently offering a series of middle school social studies classes that really dive into ancient civilizations. My passion has always been ancient societies and I absolutely enjoy learning and teaching about how advanced these civilizations were! I also love the English language and will be adding on middle school classes that will help students understand and use this amazing language.
I feel that in order for young people to be able to learn, lessons should be fun and engaging. I feel that as a teacher, I need to meet my students half way, so I allow my students to help me implement expectations, games, and activities they would look to do. Children should be actively involved in their learning environments. We have a lot of fun traveling around the ancient world and the English language.
Thank you for taking the time to read through my introduction and visit my profile! I hope to meet you soon so we can start enjoying some cool facts about the ancient world!
