🎭 ⭐️ 😸 Trust your brain, learn to speak with confidence as you make things up, and play games with new friends. (no experience required!!) According to Warren Buffett, public speaking is the #1 way to increase your value. He said improv was the best class he ever took! And... I have to agree. It's a great time and can really change your life. Practice speaking aloud, sharing your ideas with confidence, and working together as a team! We'll get to know each other each week and come up...
- Improv Acting Skills - Teamwork - Creative Thinking - Confidence - Public Speaking - Careful Listening - Behavior Control - Reasoning Skills - Mime/Object Work - Timing/Patience
Your teacher has been a fan of improv since age 9 and a performing actress for 15 years! She's studied with one of the founders of Improv (Charna Halpern), co-established Shanghai's first all-female improv team, and has traveled around the world performing and studying with fantastic improv coaches. Improv is a skill that spills over into the rest of your life. You will learn to be brave, safely experience rejection, and learn to be more intentional with your actions. Kelly has also worked as a professional actress for 5+ years. She has done voiceover work for Alibaba, Nestle, Nivea, Hitachi, and more. She has also worked on commercial projects, hosting educational English videos, and wrote an award-winning short film. She continues to audition and work on projects from Seattle.
Please stay responsible for your audio and video. Students may be purposefully muted or left out of a round if their supplies temporarily malfunction. You can take that time to fix your equipment and then join right back in. It is very disruptive having to wait on continuous problems and improv is dependent on timing + flow. You're required to have: - A working webcam. To abide by Outschool's rules, please check-in by camera at the beginning. After, it's their choice to leave it on/off on for the entire class. However, they may not leave their cameras on and hold it by hand. It's very disruptive (the noise of always shuffling around) and we need you to focus and control your body during scenes. If you want to do a scene where there's an earthquake, or you're "documentary-style" walking, ok no problem... but for the most part - keep your camera still! - A clear sounding microphone. Microphones are asked to stay muted until otherwise noted. When your microphone is on, you're asked to speak clearly.. we are a team of fast-moving creatives. If we have to wait and wait for your mic to work/to hear you, it throws off the scene. Thanks!
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Students are encouraged to tell parents and family members about the communication strategies and games we learn in improv class.
