Ever wanted to try your hand at improv? Well, this is the class for you. You'll get a chance to play a variety of wacky characters and put them in thrilling situations - all made up on the spot! Get ready for lots of fun, energy, and laugher. I am an experienced youth theatre director who has taught drama classes for many years and even directed full length shows with a cast of children and youth. Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello OutSchool families! My name is Chelsey and I am an enthusiastic, and creative elementary school teacher, youth theatre director and summer camp leader. I hold a degree from the University of British Columbia in English and Theatre, and another degree in Elementary Education
with a focus in Indigenous Education from the same university.
Here on OutSchool, I teach performing arts related classes, classes that incorporate academic curriculum but in engaging and creative ways, and arts-based classes. My classes incorporate such things as visual arts, drama, STEM projects, games, experiments, and challenges. They are highly interactive and hands-on.
In all of my teaching experiences, my first priority is to focus on the social-emotional well-being of my students, making sure to build strong relationships and a sense of community where they can feel not only comfortable to be themselves but also highly valued, just as they are. I strongly believe that children and youth learn best through exploration, creativity, and opportunities to engage their curiosity. Most of all, learning should be fun and focus mostly on learner-centred experiences that are hands-on and open-ended, rather than a more teacher-centred approach. This helps develop a life-long love of learning that I believe is vital for all of us.
I have years of experience leading children in camps related to visual arts, performing arts, and nature - three things that are personal passions of mine. In addition, I have taught children's drama classes for years and even directed children and youth in four (and counting!) full length theatre productions. This is my seventh year teaching elementary school and I truly love it. I have taught all grades between Grade 3 and Grade 7. I also spent a year teaching in a mostly online environment due to Covid concerns and this helped me learn how to maintain my teaching values in an online environment. My favourite thing about being a teacher is getting to know the unique personalities of each of my students, and nurturing their strengths and abilities. I truly believe that all children have special gifts they are just waiting to share.
I can't wait to connect with you!
