Class Experience

Let me fill you in on a little secret. Your teachers LOVE to hear from you and in our current circumstance, we are using digital methods much more frequently. The secret...sometimes your email compositions are difficult to understand. Why? There may be spelling errors, capitalization errors, no punctuation, and excessive emojis. We don't want to shut down your creativity or communication with us, so let me help you compose, edit, and use email features appropriately.

We will review, as much as necessary, key features of email in general. I will model using Gmail as many learners are using Google Classroom during distance learning and the connection is seamless. Students will practice composing an email during class based on a fictional scenario I provide.

-who is the appropriate recipient
-what are CC and BCC and when should we use them
-what are appropriate greetings
-re-reading to ensure clarity
-making requests
-closings and signatures
--and--
Are emojis ever appropriate for an email? Given how much students love to use them, we will discuss some parameters.

Learning Goals

Students will be able to compose clear, concise email correspondences using email features appropriately.

Supply List
Students will need access to a live email account. It doesn't have to be their personal email account. If they are currently or potentially expected to use Gmail, a Gmail account would be ideal as I will be using it as our model, however, all of the tools I will share with them are universal to any email provider.

It will be quite helpful if students know how to split their screen so they can see our Zoom classroom as they are working on their email. They can also use a separate device if that is easier.

I'm Kristina...wife, mom of three boys and constant learner. I was a 2nd grade ESL teacher back in the day. I earned my graduate degree in education, yet have found I learn the most by remaining curious. I am a girly, girl at heart but have learned, in part from my sons, to be comfortable getting messy for the sake of learning (and just for fun)! I value the relationships in my life, accessibility of educational opportunities, travel, and exploring a variety of ways toward personal growth.

A few of my core educational beliefs:
    Everyone has strengths.
There are never too many questions.
We all don't have to learn the same way.
Curiosity can (and should) be a spark.
Try it. Test it. Challenge it.
In a safe space, take risks.
No one can be a better you than you.
    Be open. Be kind.
    Have fun.

I am committed to being the best human being I can. My classes don't have a religious aspect, they are created to allow each student to gain greater self-awareness. With such awareness, students will be able to apply what they learn toward living their best life, whatever that means for them/your family. I am looking forward to sharing my interests and knowledge with you/your child(ren).
