The class will give students the opportunity to learn key concepts in French over the course of a year. This is the first of 4 sessions for year long French content instruction. Each week there will be a different French topic or grammar concept covered permitting new French speakers to continue with new material every week. Week 1Lesson 1The French Alphabet & Class IntroductionMy lesson is about learning the distinct letter sounds in French and the pronunciation.Week 2Lesson 2Numbers in FrenchMy lesson is about learning the numbers in French from 1 to 100 with specific tips on how to recall some of the harder numbers in French.Week 3Lesson 3French articlesIn this lesson, learners will learn how to use articles in French to describe nouns and the importance of articles in French.Week 4Lesson 4School vocabularyLearners will learn some of the key vocabulary in the school or classroom room setting.Week 5Lesson 5Family and FriendsThis lesson will provide learners with the opportunity to learn the different members of their family and how to introduce the members of the family to their friends.Week 6Lesson 6Verbs - 1st & 2nd group - ER/IR and Masculine & FeminineMy lesson is about learning how to conjugate and use verbs in a sentence starting with the first group (ER) and 2nd group (IR). Lesson will be adapted accordingly for remaining weeks and will be used to review and prepare learners to reading in Week 12 and 13.Week 12Lesson 12Reading stories in French Part 2Learners will practice and learn how to read their first story in French using the assigned text book. The focus will be on recognizing key words, verbs, pronunciation and comprehension. This is a continuation from week 11.Week 13Lesson 13Reading stories in French Part 3Learners will practice and learn how to answer the comprehension questions of the story read
This class is taught in English.
Students will learn the French essentials as a new learner of the language and build weekly skills and confidence to support their ability to join the weekly conversation class to practice their oral skills on the same subject matter.
Homework Offered
Each week there will be homework to complete in the assigned workbook for Immersive French. Registered learners will receive link to required work book which will be used weekly. The required book will be used for level 1 and level 2. Regular participation in class will practical use and retention of class material. Some homework will be interactive to help learners prepare for an upcoming lesson. Learners can expect 30-45 minutes depending on the week to help them retain and practice. Interactive activities such as Kahoot will encourage learning. **Please note the homework assigned is to help prepare students for the content for next class and ensure their preparedness. If unable to complete, students should advise teacher in advance so future class can be modified accordingly**0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
It's recommended that learners register for the Immersive French 15 minute Assessment prior to registering to more effectively the learner's French skills and level. The assessment will help to ensure learners are in the correct class and can maximize their learning and interactivity while in small groups and help classes progress more evenly together. All classes will be scaffolded accordingly to ensure learners continue to grow and build confidence their French skills.Grades Offered
Immersive French 1 is suitable for learners who are beginners or with some basic French. Learners should be prepared to speak and participate actively in class to benefit the most from the content.
Learners will provided with the require workbook(s) for Immersive French after registration in the course. There will be two books required for all four courses of Immersive French should learners wish to continue.
