Description
Class Experience
In this 1:4 ongoing immersion Mandarin class, we explore earth sciences (geology, meteorology, climatology, oceanography, & environmental science) by starting with natural disasters: tsunamis, volcanoes, landslides, tornadoes, explosions... For example, if the topic is tsunami, we will discuss where they come from, how tall/fast they can get, and what to do to protect yourself. We will also look at man-made disasters such as mudslides due to illegal logging, or the recent burst oil pipeline...
This class is taught in Mandarin Chinese.
I am a native Mandarin Chinese speaker with a neutral accent. I have several years teaching Mandarin Chinese to children. I am fluent in pin yin, zhu yin, simplified characters, and traditional characters. I have taken several science courses at the University of Toronto and McMaster University covering biology, physics, and chemistry. Currently, I do research at a large, academic, cancer centre in Canada.
25 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
